For the western rider, this bold and unique saddle pad is made of quality felt with a cotton canvas top. It helps wick moisture during hard work.
TuffRider Unisex Children’s Perfect Front Zip Paddock Boots
Boots need to be replaced a lot when you’re a kid. You grow out of them and occasionally wear them to death before you even grow out of them. These are some of my favorite paddock boots. My own current paddock boots are Tuffrider, and I’ve been pleased with the comfort and the way they’ve worn.
My advice is to spend a little more for real leather, not synthetic. Besides looking better, real leather will wear much better and is more breathable than synthetic, no matter how high quality the synthetic. That said if you prefer synthetic, Tuffrider also has a synthetic option for kids.
Ariat Kids Scout Zip Paddock Boots
If you have a little more to spend on paddock boots, these are a good choice. Ariat is a great name in footwear for riders. You know anything they make is likely to be high quality and wear well.
TuffRiderKids Winter Fleece Lined Paddock Boot
If you live in an area with cold winters, winter riding boots are a must. These fleece-lined paddock boots will keep toes from getting too frozen on long winter rides.

Books for kids who have their own horses
101 Arena Exercises
In this book, horse trainer and instructor Cherry Hill gives loads of exercises to freshen up a horse and rider’s routine in the arena. The exercises range from simple to complicated and will help improve both rider’s and horses’ skills.
101 Ground Training Exercises for Every Horse & Handler
Groundwork is really important for safety, a good horse-handler relationship, and even responsiveness under saddle. However, a lot of kids find groundwork boring compared to riding. This book by Cherry Hill is here to alleviate the boredom and show step-by-step how to achieve a horse that’s fun to work with on the ground with tons of different exercises. It’s meant to be kept in the barn or arena for easy reference, and even has a pre-cut hole to hang it within reach.
Riding for Kids book
This book by Judy Richter covers lots of different subjects kids need to know about riding horses: there are sections on horse care, clothing, tack, equipment, riding lessons, and showing.
Horse Care for Kids book
This book by Cherry Hill teaches what kids need to know to care for a horse. Subjects include Grooming, Feeding, Behavior, Stable and Pasture, Health Care, Handling and Safety, and Enjoying.
Horse experiences for kids who have their own horses
A chance to work with a horse trainer
If the horse hasn’t had a training tune-up in awhile, a great gift would be to send it to a trainer for a refresher, or to learn a new skill. Some professional horse trainers will even come work with your horse onsite. Bonus if the child rider can watch and learn how their horse is trained.
Riding or groundwork clinic
Participating in or auditing (watching others take part) a clinic for a day or two is a valuable experience for anyone with a horse. Find a clinic happening locally given by a professional trainer or rider on a topic the child is interested in.
Lessons with an instructor
If they don’t already take regular lessons with their horse, a few sessions with a trusted instructor can bring a change of perspective, increase confidence, and teach new skills fast. If they do already take regular lessons, it’s still a great gift to get them a few extra ones to brush up before a show, or maybe give them an opportunity to try a different discipline.
There you have it! I hope this list inspired you to find a gift your horse-lover adored. If they did love something from the list, let me know. I can’t wait to hear about it!
